Born 7 May 1919 – Eva Perón

Eva Perón, born María Eva Duarte on May 7, 1919, in Los Toldos, Argentina, rose from humble beginnings to become a powerful and controversial figure. Leaving her rural hometown at 15, she pursued an acting career in Buenos Aires, achieving fame on radio and in tango films. A pivotal moment came in 1944 when she met Juan Perón, a rising military leader. Their marriage in 1945 intertwined her life with Argentine politics. As First Lady from 1946, Eva Perón cultivated a strong connection with the working class. Championing social welfare programs and women’s suffrage, she became known as “Evita,” a revered symbol of hope for many Argentines. However, her critics saw her as manipulative and power-hungry. Sadly, Eva Perón’s life was cut short at the young age of 33 on July 26, 1952, from cervical cancer. Even in death, her legacy remains a subject of fascination and debate.
