Jessica Alba Biography

Born on April 28, 1981, in Pomona, California, Jessica Marie Alba is the daughter of Catherine who is of Welsh, German, Danish and French Canadian ancestry and Mark David whose parents were born in California following their parents’ arrival as immigrants from Mexico. She is not an only child and has a brother who is younger called Joshua. As a young child, Jessica moved around the USA quite a lot due to her father’s career in the Air Force but by the time she was nine, the family had settled back in California.

Growing up, Alba wasn’t the healthiest of children and suffered from a number of different ailments, including partially collapsed lungs and repeated bouts of pneumonia. She also had a ruptured appendix and a cyst on her tonsils and all through this she also suffered from asthma. Due to her illnesses, she spent a lot of time in the hospital and this couple with the family moving around so much meant that she didn’t make friends at school very easily as no-one got to spend enough time with her to become her friend. Jessica would go on to graduate though from Claremont High School when she was sixteen and went on to attend the Atlantic Theatre Company.

She had been interested in acting since she was five years old and managed, by the time she was 11, to persuade her parents to take her to an acting competition in Beverly Hills. The first prize was a course of acting lessons and Jessica won the prize and so received her first acting lessons. Nine months later and Alba had signed with an agent and her first role on film, albeit a small one was in the part of Gail in the 1994 feature, Camp Nowhere.

Jessica Alba then went on to appear in a number of TV commercials including those for J. C. Penney and Nintendo. This led to her branching out into more television roles in 1994 and she played the role of Maya in two seasons of the TV show Flipper. Her mother had been a lifeguard and so it followed that Jessica could swim almost before she could walk. She was also a qualified scuba diver and these skills would prove useful on Flipper, which was filmed in Australia.

In 1998 she went on to appear in a number of other TV shows including Brooklyn South and Beverly Hills 90210. It was then in 1999 that she went on to study acting with William H. Macy and Felicity Huffman at The Atlantic Theatre Company. Alba’s star was on the rise and this was helped when she appeared alongside Drew Barrymore in the romantic comedy Never Been Kissed, following which she took the lead role in the 1999 comedy horror movie Idle Hands.

In 2000, Jessica Alba’s big TV breakthrough came along when James Cameron picked her out of 1200 hopefuls to play Max Guevara on the much-loved Fox sci-fi show, Dark Angel. The show only ran for two seasons but it landed Alba a Golden Globe nomination. More awards started to follow including a Teen Choice Award and a Saturn Award for Best Actress. She also received a Sexiest Performance award at the MTV Movie Awards for her part in 2006’s Sin City. Another notable character that she played around the same time was Sue Storm in the Fantastic Four movies.

In 2008, Jessica Alba moved genre slightly and took a role in a horror remake of King Kong called The Eye. The movie was not well received though and Alba herself received mixed reviews, but she did land a Teen Choice Award for Choice Movie Actress: Horror / Thriller.

More recently, Alba has reprised her role as Nancy Callahan in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For which is a sequel to 2005’s Sin City.

Away from TV and movies, Jessica Alba has always been popular due in no part to her stunning looks. In 2001 she was voted the hottest when she was ranked number 1 in Maxim Magazine’s Hot 100. In 2005, People Magazine voted her into the top 50 of the world’s most beautiful people. She was voted fifth Sexiest Female Star in 2002 by Hollywood.com and number four in the top ten of sci-fi babes. She was 6th in FHM’s sexiest girls and Stuff Magazine placed her 12th in their list of 102 Sexiest Women in the World. In 2006, Jessica Alba was named among the top 25 sexiest celebrities on the cover of Playboy magazine. And so it continues, but although Alba has accepted that she needs to use her sexuality and good looks to her advantage, she has a strict no-nudity clause in her contracts.

Jessica Alba married Cash Warren in 2008. She gave birth to her first daughter, Honor Marie Warren in 2008 and her second daughter Haven Garner Warren was born in 2011.
